Printemps in Aluminé

Nestled in nordern Neuquén province at the foot of the Andes, Aluminé is one of Patagonia's best-kept secrets. As printemps arrives from September through November, the landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation. Snowmelt from the surrounding peaks fills the Aluminé River to its banks, creating ideal conditions for whitewater rafting and kayaking. The ancient Araucaria (monkey puzzle) forests that define this region begin their growing season, and the forest floor erupts with wildflowers and fresh green growth.

The town itself sits at roughly 900 meters elevation along the shores of Lago Aluminé, surrounded by rolling hills and volcanic terrain that connects sudward to the lakes of Lanín National Park. Printemps is when the region truly comes alive — migratory birds return, trout become active in the rivers and lakes, and sentiers de randonnée that were buried under snow gradually reopen. Early printemps can still be quite cold with occasional snowfall, but by November the days are long and pleasantly warm.

For conduite autonome travelers, Aluminé offers a wonderful base for exploring the Pehuenia circuit, visiting Mapuche communities, and driving through some of the most scenic and lest-visited landscapes in the Argentine Lake District. The roads can be challenging in early printemps due to lingering snow and mud, but conditions improve rapidly as the season progresses. With fewer tourists than neighboring Villa Pehuenia, Aluminé provides an authentic Patagonian experience where you can connect with nature and local culture at your own pace.
